Minutes of Group Meetings
Tuesday 8th February
At the meeting with clients, Frank and Jim, the brief to create an on-line fashion magazine was discussed.
A project manager was elected, Edel. The role would be setting tasks and targets for the next meetings, organization of the work load.
Quick brainstorming lead to two idea routes that could be explored, high street fashion and fashion influenced by music.
Goals for next meeting
Pick a fashion style, a name and also 4 topics that is stated on the brief.
Thursday 10th February
A drop box and email account was set up for communication purpose for the group.
All the members of the group discussed their exploration in the style that they thought would work best.
Jeff’s idea seemed the more plausible idea, skate fashion magazine along with his idea of tasteless for the brand.
From Leyla’s and Edel’s research, we decided the style of illustrations and typography that would accompany the web-site.
Goals for next meeting
We each design the brand logo for Tasteless and research content for the following topics, deck designs, footwear, clothing, accessories and tattoos.
Tuesday 15th February
As the three of us went away and designed logos for Tasteless we looked at which one was the best. As none of us got the aspect of the brand, we decided on re-doing the logo again in a much simpler form of Graffiti.
Our topics for the site were finalised into 4 topics, skateboard designs, footwear, clothing, and accessories.
Goals for next meeting
Jeff will re-do the logo brand. Leyla will gather information on clothing and accessories, whilst Edel will look at skateboard designs and footwear. The information that is needed is written content and images.
Thursday 17th February
Name change: Wasteland
Topics decided, talked about tech accessories and clothing brands and how to display products.
Tagline: if needed could be "Its not just a style its a way of life!" or "its not fashion, its a way of life!"
Tried to pinpoint the style we're going with, which will be decided in Tuesday’s class.
Goals for next meeting
Jeff will develop the logo for Tuesday
Style Boards need to be done for Thursday so collect research and our development and bring in Tuesday.
Layout ideas thought about and sketched.
Tuesday 22nd February
As we have a meeting with the clients on Thursday coming, we went through some horizontal websites to see how they tackle navigation issues.
We also sorted out our style, soft modern grunge, and imagery for our style board that we will present to the clients. The most important thing to figure out is what exactly we are going to say to the clients. Edel will discuss the reason for doing a skate magazine, name and logo design. Leyla will go through style board and typography while Jeff will talk through the layout and navigation.
Goals for next meeting
Create presentation boards, logo, style and layout.
Finalize what we each going to say.
Tuesday 24th February
Before we met with the clients, we had several run-throughs our presentation to flesh out any issues. After, we discussed what the client’s feedback, such as advertising elements. We had forgotten about this problem so this will have to be sorted out straight away. The clients liked our logo, and only had one suggestion of fixing the 1st a. Next step is to design a layout and how to fit our content into the overall visual style.
Goals for next meeting
Jeff: re-address logo issues
Edel and Leyla: find way of displaying advertisements and finished visual layouts
Wednesday 2nd March
Today we just looked at ways to advertise on a web site, and found the best way for advertisers to advertise on our site is either by video or an actual full page advert. Jeff went through navigation layouts and we discussed how we could insert those adverts into the layout. As we have chosen our layout we will just to transfer the design to computer.
Goals for next meeting
Gather 2 articles for the given topic headings and design them into a spread. Transfer the basic design to Photoshop first. Try out taking skating photographs.
Thursday 3rd March
The layout of the online magazine was discussed and worked out further. Logo was finalized.
Jeff continued with layout. Edel continued with article content, design and layout. Leyla continued with articles too and also taking skateboarding photography.
Jeff continued with layout. Edel continued with article content, design and layout. Leyla continued with articles too and also taking skateboarding photography.
Goals for next meeting
As a group we will put the site together for next Thursday.
Wednesday 9th March
Having gathered our articles, Edel and Leyla discussed the layout of each of their pieces. The final headings for the articles were decided as was the FINAL logo. The intro page was storyboarded along with the home and gallery pages.
Goals for next meeting
Create a visual version of the storyboard and an article cover. Keep working on article layout that’s with in Edel’s grid structure.
Thursday 10th March
Leyla having finished her articles placed them into the page inserts on the site. As a group we just presented our ideas, to lectures, of the overall layout look of the on-line magazine. Suggestions were made that we don’t need as much detail on the Introduction page as what we do have. A simple flash of the image will do. After we talked about the advertising issues we had. 3 adverts will be made to represent what investors/sponsors could buy.
Goals for next meeting
Leyla and Edel will create the 3 adverts, any articles needed finishing up will have to be done for next meeting. Jeff will work on the navigation bar.
Wednesday 16th March
Having finished both our articles, we discussed what could be tweaked in them. Also the interactive side of the naviagtion was discussed.
Goals for next meeting
Fix the parts in the articles.
Tuesday 22nd March
The home and library pages were made along with the buttons. Also the introduction type was composed. Image placements were used for the library section. Also the pop up box for the home page was created.
Goals for next meeting
One magazine cover each has to be designed for the library page. The image for the home page needs to be inserted. Also we need to discuss what will be said to the client for Thursday!
Wednesday 23rd March
As one member was out sick we went through all our articles and buttons together. As a group we decided to change one or two things in the articles and also the navigation icons. Also the brands of the particular articles needed to be inserted into the articles for copyright issues. Today was the only day that the group had a bit of a disagreement on regards to the navigation so we decided on manual for the navigation as we felt the user could be lost without a bit of guidance.
Goals for next meeting
Arrange presentation boards for the client meetings.
Thursday 24th March
Before meeting with the industry clients, we had to arrange the presentation boards and what we were going to say to them. As we were too formal in the last meeting we decided that we were going to be informal this time around.
The feedback from the clients was extremely positive and the only criticism we got was we went into too much detail in regards to the navigation. They just want the overall style and feel of the site instead.
Goals for next meeting
Our next meting we will discussion what the clients said and how we can improve upon that.
Wednesday 30th March
We looked at our site and found that we need to have a button for the manual just so the User can understand what all our navigation is about. In order to get out grunge style across we decided that the same texture used in the home page should be used in the Zoomed out article mode but slightly darker. We also need to replace the tags with topic in the article mode. As we have an example of a profile page, we tweaked bits on it, and had any possible answer for questions asked by the clients.
The headings for the Formal presentation were decided upon, Introduction; Edel, Brand; Leyla, Website-Jeff and Advertisements.
Goals for next meeting
Supporting visuals for the Presentation need to be sorted out and for Tuesday next we each need to write out individual pieces.
Thursday 31st March
The Interactive buttons were put in articles. This was discussed further and we came up with a better way to display the buttons. The profile layout was finalized. We discussed what we’re going to show for the presentation.
The texture/ background were added to the zoomed out pages of the magazine.

Jeff: Describing Website
Edel: Introduction, Brief and how we dealt with it
Leyla: The Wasteland Brand
Jeff: Describing Website
Goals for next meeting
Continuity throughout the text in the articles and website has to be looked at. Also we have to make the articles more interesting and interactive to grab the attention of the viewer. Write our parts for the presentation so we can go through them next Tuesday as a group.
Friday 1st April
As Edel was out sick in the last meeting we went over what was said in regards to fed back from supporting lecturers, like make the article layouts less of a magazine spreads and more interactive. Also the overall feel of the site needs to have our grunge style throughout the whole site.
To combat these issues we chose 2 articles each to fix. We also agreed on typefaces and point sizes to use for continuity purposes, Verdana 12pt, with sub text travelling typewriter. The group changed the icons of the navigation bar to make them more ‘grunge’ looking but it failed so original style will be kept.
Goals for next meeting
As we spent time working out those issues, we need to apply them to the articles and also have our parts written from the pervious meetings goals.
Tuesday 5th April
Having applied the interactive elements to our articles, Leyla and Edel went through each others articles to make sure that every article was the same for continuity purposes. Some of the articles looked too plain so some graphic elements were added to them. We didn’t have time to go over our sections for the presentation.
Goals for next meeting
Tweak the articles and come up with our speeches for the presentation.
Thursday 8th April
Today we went through what we should show in the presentation. We had planned to it quite formally but after some feedback from the lecturers we decided that we wouldn’t talk for too long. We would have 10 slides.
1. Introduction -Edel
2. Brand -Edel
3. Treated logo and it’s applications –Jeff
4. Home page -Jeff
5. Slide transition –Edel and Jeff
6. Profile page -Leyla
7. Introduction to the magazine -Jeff
8. Clothing articles with interactive feature -Jeff
9. Decks article with interactive feature -Jeff
10. Advertisements -Leyla
Goals for next meeting
Those who have there sections will make their boards. Use the textured background or a black background where needed.
Tuesday 12th April
Today we were told we had to show the interactive elements, from our magazine, in our presentation. We decided tat we should show the slide transition from home to library, and 2 of our best articles. As they had to be done in flash we had to work out how the pages were going to work first. Also the presentation boards had to be decided in which order they were going to be shown.
Goals for next meeting
Complete the presentation boards and work out our speeches for our parts.
Wednesday 13th April
Presentation boards were finalised and a booklet was made for the actual presentation. In this booklet was our brand, rational, topics and profile page information. As PowerPoint would support our swift files we had to create a flash presentation. This also had to be designed and laid out too. The coding proved to be difficult especially when importing the swf files as parts were missing.
Goals for next meeting
Print off booklet. Finish off the flash presentation and practice our parts.
Thursday 15th April
The flash presentation was finished off, speeches were practiced and the final presentation was made to the clients.
Goals for next meeting
The concept boards from our flash presentation should be placed into In-design and printed out. Rational, brief requirements and responsibilities document must be typed and print out.
